Lewis County Health Support Services Now Open

SYRACUSE, N.Y. –Franciscan Companies and Lewis County General Hospital are pleased to announce Lewis County Health Support Services, a full service home medical equipment company. Lewis County Health Support Services provides North Country patients with quality medical equipment and respiratory care services including home oxygen therapy, sleep therapy, asthma management and home assessment. It is located at the Hospital’s main campus on the ground floor of the Medical Arts Building, 7785 N. State Street, Lowville, New York.

The company will work with the Hospital’s case management team to help reduce unnecessary hospital admissions and re-admissions. Lewis County Health Support Services provides patients with a team of Registered Respiratory Therapists and sleep disorder experts under the medical direction of Dr. Sherif El Bayadi, board-certified in pulmonology and sleep medicine.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Franciscan Companies to provide durable medical equipment onsite for our patients,” said Michele Prince, director of ancillary services at Lewis County General Hospital. “This service line provides much needed access to equipment for our patients. The convenience and options available improve the quality of care we can provide and ensures our patients are on the path to continued wellness.” Prior to this affiliation, patients would have to wait until equipment could be ordered and delivered from outside of the area due to a lack of local services in Lewis County.

For 30 years, Franciscan Companies has been providing respiratory therapy and home medical equipment to patients throughout Central New York and Northern Pennsylvania. During that time, Franciscan has developed many key relationships allowing them to provide services to expand the coverage area and offer these types of services in Auburn, Binghamton, Carthage, Oneida and Utica.

“There is a need in the North Country that our health support services can fulfill,” said Tim Scanlon, vice president for Franciscan Companies. “The existing partnership between Lewis County General and St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center compelled us to expand into the County to ensure the community continues to have access to high quality home healthcare and support.”

The formation of Lewis County Health Support Services enables people to receive high quality medical care close to home while also ensuring that when a patient at Lewis County General requires acute care services that he/she experiences a smooth transition to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. Through this partnership, Lewis County General is also able to take advantage of cost saving purchasing agreements negotiated by St. Joseph’s that help maintain a stable operating environment.

“St. Joseph’s is committed to helping hospitals provide high quality, cost effective service to patients in the community they consider home. As a partner, Lewis County General benefits from St. Joseph’s successful affiliated businesses including Franciscan Companies, which allows the Hospital to continue providing excellent care right where their patients need it – at home.” said Mark Murphy, senior vice president for System Development and Ambulatory Care at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center.
